How will special education services at home be different from a traditional school?

Educational services will not take place in the traditional school building but rather at home. Your child will continue to work toward their IEP goals, but the delivery will be different due to the current circumstances.

Schoolwork packets will be sent home with assignments align to your child’s  IEP goals. Online learning activities will also be available for those who have internet access. I will include your child’s username and passwords for the online activities in their packets.

If your child receives speech or occupational school-based therapies, the service providers will be contacting you to discuss how those related services can be provided during the remainder of this school year.

Is distance learning more flexible than your child’s traditional school day?

Yes! The home learning environment is much more flexible than the traditional brick and mortar school as you can modify the day to suit your child’s strengths. Your child should have about 30 minutes of work to complete per core subject.

What role will you play in your child’s distance learning?

You are your child’s best and most valuable coach. As your child’s learning coach, you are vital to their overall success. It is important that your child reads aloud to an adult every day.  As he reads, ask comprehension questions and discuss any new vocabulary. You will need to monitor his work to ensure that the assignments are completed with accuracy and quality. Please place each completed assignment in the  back of the binder.

What are the anticipated hours for students?

Students will be working anywhere from 1-2 hours per day depending on individual work speed. Your child can complete the work at any time of the day but space out the assignments so that they work on them daily.

How you can contact me.

You may contact me via phone, email, or Facebook messenger.  Most of you have my number.  If you do not, please email me.  I will be available to answer questions or offer help with assignments from 1:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. I will be contacting you weekly to see how things are going.

Important Information

*Packets will be distributed April 6th.  If your child receives a daily meal, packets will be given with the meal sack at meal pick up. If your child does not receive a daily meal packets, the packet will be distributed in the pick-up line area at the front of the school. PLEASE CALL AHEAD for a time to pick up. Your child’s personal belongings will be distributed at this same time.

If your child receives speech or occupational school-based therapies, the service providers will be contacting you to discuss how those related services can be provided during the remainder of this school year.

Completion of the schoolwork packets is mandatory. All work must be completed and turn by May 4. You may take a picture of the completed assignments and email them to jking@crowder.k12.ok.us each week or send them in a text to my cell phone.

**If you cannot upload pictures of completed work weekly, please put the completed work and any textbooks in a large trash bag with your child’s name on it.

Contact me or the school to schedule a time to drop off the finished assignments.

**Please do not bring completed assignments to the school before May 4.

We will get through this together. Please tell your child that I miss him and look forward to seeing him in August!
