Lauren Nichols- Mcalester News Capital Student of the Month for November

Congratulations to Lauren Nichols for being November Student of the Month

Where do you want to go to college and why?

I would like to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College to be a part of their Respiratory Therapy program. I believe this program will be beneficial to my future and academic career.

What is your list of accomplishments including scholarships received?

My lists of accomplishments include being a member of the National Technical Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and being a HOSA State qualifier. I have been in the Superintendent’s Honor Roll all through high school and maintained a 4.0 GPA. In the school year of 2018-2019, I received Student of the Month at KTC in McAlester, and later that year was awarded Student of the Year at the same KTC and given a $500 scholarship to help pay for schooling.

What drives you to succeed?

The realization of others looking up to me drives me to succeed. I hope to set a prominent example for my younger brothers looking up to me.

Who inspires you to excel in school and why?

My mom is the person who inspires me to excel in school; she has always been more than supportive of my academics.

What community activities are you involved in and what drives you to give back to the community?

I am a member of a YAB group which is a volunteer group associated with Choctaw Nation that helps around the community by organizing free events for people or just to provide a helping hand when needed. I have a drive for giving back to the community because I have a longing to better the world we live in.

What are your extracurricular activities and how do they improve your education?

My extracurricular activities involve working a part time job as a hostess, volunteering with my YAB group, and being a HOSA member and officer. My HOSA group helps to improve my education by preparing me for the science courses and struggles I will face when on my way to becoming a medical professional.

How would a new car help achieve your future goals?

If given the opportunity to receive a new car, I feel that it would help me to achieve my future goals by relieving the stress of transportation issues involving getting to and from school. I am currently also a concurrent student at Eastern Oklahoma State College and I pay all of my tuition with the money I make from the job that I work at about 30 hours a week. If I were to receive a new car, it would greatly repress the amount of money I would spend for transformation and I could use more of the money for my schooling, and therefore be able to focus even more on my studies.
